SAS

Founded in February 2015, the Skills Acquisition Scheme (SAS) is a capacity building programme of the church aimed at imparting practical skills to people seeking gainful employment or an alternative source of income. It is driven by the church’s vision to teach people to enhance their productivity and maximize resource.

The programme is designed as a 12-week session comprising a productivity training seminar, theoretical classes and practical workshops. Registration and all classwork are free, however, trainees will be required to bring along their practice materials for practical classes.

All participants in the SAS programme are expected to take assessment examinations at the end of the training and will be awarded a certificate of participation in their area of study at the attainment of a minimum 75% score and the successful completion of the required coursework.

Course Objective

This course aims at teaching basic skills to trainees to jump start their careers in acting for both stage and cinema.

Study Design

The coursework covers both theory and field training for a well-rounded professional practice. Classes hold for a period of one hour each contact day, spanning a total of 12 weeks, though supplementary classes may be scheduled for rehearsals.

At the end of the programme, students will be expected to have good knowledge of the following:

  • Careers in acting and film.
  • Stage performance and film types.
  • The creative process: storytelling, scriptwriting, acting, directing, using the body and space.

This programme aims at imparting participants with basic skills in Bead making.

Study Design

The programme comprises 12 learning weeks of one hour each, making a total of 12 weeks. Teaching will be mainly through classroom instruction and practical demonstrations.

The baking & confectionary course aims at imparting participants with basic skills in various cake making techniques and other confectionary such as cookies, pizza, Scotch egg, rock buns etc. Practical lessons in baking of various types of cakes and pastries will be used to give the participants a rounded knowledge.

Study Design
Baking classes will last for one hour each day and will hold for a period of 12 weeks. Students will be involved in practical baking and cake decoration classes. Question & Answer sessions as well as classroom evaluations are incorporated into each lecture.

• The role of each ingredient used in baking.
• How to bake various types of cake and pastries.

Course Objective

This programme aims at imparting participants with basic skills in Computer Graphics Designing. Hands-on practice are built into the training to help participants gain familiarity in the use of relevant software.

Course Objective

The aim of the course is to guide students in knowledge areas they need to become conversant with Computer Aided Design. Our curriculum attempts to guide students to a mastery of the basics in CAD.
Study Requirements

We strongly encourage our CAD students to enrich their skills by practicing very often. Students will also need to have access to a personal computer both for class learning and home practice.

Coursework and Assessment

The coursework is divided into 3 levels as follows: Level 1(Weeks 1-3), Level 2 (Weeks 4-9), Level 3 (Weeks 10-12).
The examination report consists of written commentary and a numeric rating within the level submitted by the student’s teacher. Students at the final basic course level will generally be examined on how well they have mastered basic tools as well as their application of the tools in generating basic drawings/models.

Course Objective

This programme aims at imparting participants with basic knowledge in using the computer. The programme will expose participants to the three main Microsoft Office Suites applications (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point) and the use of the internet.

Study Design

The programme comprises 12 learning weeks of one hour each, making a total of 12 weeks. Teaching will be mainly through classroom instruction and hands-on practicals.

Key Deliverables

At the end of the programme, it is expected that participants should be able to:

Understand the basic components of a computer system.
Perform basic tasks on a PC.
Use MS Word for document creation, editing and formatting.
Use MS Excel for calculation and graphical representation.
Use MS Power Point for presentations.
Know the benefits of the internet, how to launch the internet, send and receive mails.

Course Objective
This programme aims at imparting participants with basic skills in hair dressing and styling. Supplementary classes in beauty treatments such as manicure and pedicure are included for a more rounded learning.

Study Design
The programme comprises 12 learning weeks of one hour each, making a total of 12 weeks. Teaching will be mainly through classroom instruction and demonstrations, with saloon visits where applicable. Learning aids such as charts and audiovisual guides may also be employed to enrich the learning experience.

Key Deliverables
At the end of the programme, it is expected that participants should be able to:
• Identify different saloon equipment and understand their uses.
• Know different hair types and their qualities.
• Have working knowledge of hairdressing/styling fundamentals such as relaxing, retouching, weaving and braiding.
• Carry out basic saloon treatments including manicure and pedicure.

Course Objective
This programme aims at imparting participants with basic skills in Laundry and Dry Cleaning.

Study Design
The programme comprises 12 learning weeks of at least one hour each, making a total of 12 weeks. Teaching will be through classroom instructions and practical demonstrations. Learning aids such as charts and audiovisual guides may also be employed to enrich the learning experience. In all, there will be four (4) theoritical classes and eight (8) practical classes.

Course Objective
This course is mainly targeted at people who want to build a professional career in music. The classes are broken into specialisation areas in singing and music arts, and instrumentation (bass guitar, lead guitar and keyboard/piano playing).

Study Design
The training classes will major on eight (8) broad categorisations during a twelve-week (12 weeks) learning period lasting about one hour per week. The classes will be accompanied by lots of practical class exercises as well as homework to enhance and maximize the learning and the skills acquired in the course of the three-month training.
The programme will end with a live concert during which participants are expected to showcase their personal songs and compositions created in the course of the training programme.

This course aims at imparting participants with basic skills in Photography such that the participants can perform basic photographic tasks such as event coverage, family portraits among others.

Study Design
The program comprises of six major segments which will be taught in 12 learning weeks of 2 hours for each topic. Teaching will be mainly through classroom instruction and demonstrations using cameras, lightning and a tripod. However, the major part of the work is practical based whereby participants are expected to go into the field to take photo-shoots.

This course aims at equipping participants with basic tailoring and fashion designing skills for both native and corporate clothing styles as well as fashion accessorizing.
